최근 들어 오케스트라 교육이 강화되고 있지만 학생들의 연주와 음악적 성장을 위한 오케스트라 자료와 교재가 부족한 것이 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 미국의 초급 현악 학생 오케스트라를 위한 교재를 분석하고, 이를 통해 국내 학생 오케스트라 교재 개발을 위한 시사점이 무엇인지를 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위해 미국 현악교사협회(ASTA)의 ASTA 현악 교육과정을 내용 분석 준거의 틀로 사용하였고, 미국에서 발간된 오케스트라 교재 중 5개, 총 20권의 학생 교재를 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오케스트라 교재에서는 연주 기술 및 지식을 위한 다양한 게임이 활용되었고, 둘째, 학생들의 창의성을 위한 즉흥연주와 작곡이 교재의 초반에서부터 제시되었으며, 셋째, 학생들의 독보능력 계발을 위한 여러 창의적인 교수 방법이 나타났고, 넷째, 다양한 문화와 작곡가의 음악이 적극 활용되었다. 이러한 연구 결과는 우리나라 학생들의 연주능력, 창의성, 예술성이 발현될 수 있도록 미국의 오케스트라 교재 분석에서 발견된 여러 장점들이 반영된 교재가 제작되어야 할 필요성을 시사한다.
Recently, education programs for orchestra were reinforced, but there are insufficient orchestral resources and materials to help students develop playing skills and grow musically. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze orchestra books for beginning string orchestra and find out what implications it has for developing orchestra teaching materials in Korea. 20 student orchestra books of five different methods were analyzed according to The ASTA String Curriculum published by the American String Teachers Association. The results were as follows. First, various interesting games were introduced to develop students executive skills and knowledge, second, improvisation and composition activities for students creativity were found from the beginning of the orchestra books, third, creative strategies for students music literacy were found, and fourth, musical works including various historical and cultural elements were actively used. This study implied that orchestra books reflecting the above strengths should be developed for students performing skills, creativity, and artistry.
