고전 (古傳)적 예술작품의 인문학적 교육 가능성 - <Mulan>의 리텔링(re-telling)을 중심으로 -

A classic as culture and art a chance of a humanistic education - Focused on re-telling of <Mulan> -

본고는 고전 리텔링을 통해 인문학적 교육의 가능성을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 고전<Mulan>의 리텔링의 실제 사례를 소개하고, 예술로서의 고전과 현실표상으로서의 고전사이의 인간적 고뇌와 갈등이 현대사회에 어떻게 수용되고 있는 지를 살펴봄으로써 교육적 효과와 함의를 모색하였다. 연구자는 인문학의 위기의 원인을 경제적 논리가 아닌, 인문학의 공급자와 수요자간의 소통부재, 그리고 소통하는 방법에서 찾고자 하였다. 이에 대한 방법론적 대안으로 고전의 리텔링에 주목했다. 고전의 리텔링은 고전 속에 묻힌 현실적 인간의 존재론적 고뇌를 살피는 일이며, 잃어버렸다면, 회복해야하는 인문학적 질문에 답을 구하는 방법이다. 이러한 리텔링의 과정은 인문학적 질문을 견인하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다. Ⅰ장에서는 한국의 대학 교양교육 차원에서 인문학적 교육을 성찰하였고, Ⅱ장에서는 문화예술로서의 고전의 표상(representation)을 살펴보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 <Mulan>의 실제 리텔링 사례를 제시하고, 고전의 현대적 의미와 고전 리텔링의 필요성에 대해 고찰하였다. Ⅳ장에서는 고전 리텔링을 통한 인문학 교육의 가능성을 탐색하였으며, Ⅴ장은 결론으로 인문학적 교육의 가능성을 타진하였다.

This article examined a possibility of a humanistic education through classic re-telling. For this, as it has introduced a real case of re-telling on classical <Mulan> and examined how personal agony and conflict between a classic as art and a classic as a symbol of reality has been accepted to modern society, founding the educational effect and implication. In the 1st chapter, this paper considered a humanistic education at the statement of a liberal education in a university of Korea, in the 2nd chapter, it examined what the representation of a classic as culture and art was. In the 3rd chapter, it studied the course of analyzing <Mulan> and the finding of modern meaning in a classic with a real case. In the 4th chapter, it identified the needs for re-telling through a humanistic question at the viewpoint of understanding other’s suffering and communication. In the 5th chapter, as a conclusion, it drew a possibility of a humanistic education. Like such, it is possible to do a humanistic question through classic re-telling, and the course for finding the answer of it is the way to open a possibility of a humanistic education. Therefore, an essay on art as a cultural artistic symbol that was discussed in the II is possible if a classic is to be as a classic, and art is to be for holding up clarity of art. This is the same context as the reason why this paper tries to suggest the needs for re-telling of a classic. The re-telling of a classic is to find ontological agony of a realistic human being who is buried under a classic, if it was lost; it may be a way to find an answer for a humanistic question. This study expects that such course of re-telling would be helped lead a humanistic question.
