DSM-5의 진단 기준으로 본 사울 왕의 정신 병리

King Saul’s Psychopathological Disorder by the Diagnosis Criteria of DSM-5

이 연구는 사울의 병리적인 정서와 행동을 분석하여 그 결과를 DSM-5 진단기준으로 판단하려는 연구이다. 정서로는 사울의 ‘두려움’과 ‘분노’를 분석하였고, 행동으로는 ‘악령의 임재’로 인한 결과와 다윗에 대한 살해 시도를 분석하였다. 분석결과 사울의 병리적 정서와 행동은 ‘기간으로는 지속적, 강도로는 극단적’이다. 사울의 정서는 ‘우울과 두려움’으로 시작하여 ‘증오와 분노’로 발전하였고, 마침내 ‘살인적 공격행동’으로 이어졌다. 이런 특징들로 그의 정신장애는 ‘우울장애’와 ‘불안장애’로 시작된 ‘경계성 성격장애’와 ‘편집성 성격장애’로 진단될 수 있다.

This research aims to analyze King Saul’s morbid emotion and behavior, and to judge the result by the diagnosis criteria of DSM- 5. As for emotion, ‘fear and anger,’ as for behavior, the result of ‘coming of evil spirit’ and the trial to kill David are analyzed. The outcome shows that Saul’s pathological emotion and behavior are ‘continuous in duration, extreme in intensity.’ His mental disorder begins as ‘depression and fear,’ develops into ‘hate and anger,’ and leads to ‘deadly attack behavior.’ By these characteristics of Saul’s signs and symptoms, his case can be diagnosed as ‘boundary personality disorder’ and ‘paranoid personality disorder’ which begins as ‘depressive disorder’ and ‘anxiety disorder.’
