지각에 대한 현상학적 이해와 문화예술교육

The Phenomenological Understanding of Perception and Culture Arts Education

본 논문은 지각에 대한 현상학적 이해에 기초하고 있는 지각에 대한 대안적 접근들을 살펴 보고, 지각에 대한 대안적 이해가 문화예술교육에 시사하는 함축적 의미를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 아른하임의 시각적 사고, 메를로퐁티의 지각현상학 그리고 최근에 철학 및 인지과학의 분야에서 새롭게 관심을 모으고 있는 체화된 마음 이론을 살펴보았다. 지각에 대한 현상학적 이해에 의하면 지각은 마음-몸-환경의 상호적 관계 속에서 의미를 발견하고 구성하는 능동적 과정이라는 것이다. 이 지각의 개념에서는 인간 인지의 또 다른 한 측면인 직접체험에 의한 앎의 방식이 새롭게 강조된다. 이와 같은 의미에서 최근 인지과학의 분야에서 새롭게 대두되고 있는 체화된 마음이론은 문화예술교육에 시사하는 바가 매우 크다. 마음이 머릿속에서 표상된 지식을 논리적으로 추론하는 작용에 국한되어 있기보다는, 몸과 환경과의 역동적인 관계 속에서 작용한다면, 마음의 작용은 대상과의 직접적인 경험에 의해 크게 영향을 받을 수밖에 없다는 것이다. 그리고 이 직접경험의 문제는 문화예술교육의 중요한 문제 영역의 한 부분이다. 따라서 문화예술교육은 주지주의 교과 못지않게 교육의 장면에서 등한시 될 수 없는 중요한 의미를 지니고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이와 같은 마음에 대한 생각 틀의 변화와 지각에 대한 대안적 이해는 문화예술교육에도 새로운 변화의 바람을 불러일으킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

This thesis is to review an alternative approach to the perception based on the phenomenological understanding of perception, and study the connotative meaning that the alternative understanding of this perception suggests in culture arts education. For this purpose, this study examined Rudolf Arnheim s visual thinking, Maurice Merleau-Ponty s Phenomenology of Perception, and the embodied mind theory attracting a new attention in the field of philosophy and cognitive science recently. According to phenomenological understanding, perception is an active process to discover and constitute the meaning concerning the perception target in the interactive relation of mind-body-environment. In the concept of this perception, the method of knowing by the direct experience is newly emphasized, which is another phase of human cognition. In this sense, the embodied mind theory appearing newly in the area of recent cognitive science presents a great suggestion in culture arts education. That is, if mind is not confined to the action inferring the knowledge represented logically in the head, but the action in the dynamic interactive relation of body and environment, the action of mind is forced to be affected greatly by the direct experience with the object. And the problem of this direct experience is a part of the realm of the important issue of culture arts education. Therefore, it can be fairly said that culture arts education has a significant meaning which cannot be neglected in the scene of education. It is expected that the change of the mind frame and the new understanding of perception will arouse the wind of the new change also in culture arts education.
