옌롄커(阎连科), 『딩씨 마을의 꿈(丁庄梦)』 속의 성서적 장치 의미 고찰

A Study on Meanings of Biblical Device in the Yan Lian-Ke’s Dream of Ding’s Village

본 연구는 중국의 저명 작가 옌롄커의 소설 『딩씨 마을의 꿈』에 반영된 ‘성서적 장치’가 당대 중국 사회의 맥락에서 어떤 의미를 내포하고 있는지를 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 주지하듯 개혁개방 후 중국에서는 ‘과학’과 ‘부’를 사회를 통제하고 안정화하는 중요한 이념적 키워드로 활용하면서, 한 편으로는 인간의 욕망을 고취하였고 다른 한 편으로는 그것을 제어해왔다. 위 작품은 그와 같은 ‘과학’과 ‘부’의 수사학이 딩씨 마을 사람들의 ‘매혈(賣血)’을 촉구하는 매개물로 작용하고 있음을 보여준다. 그리고 그와 같은 권력자의 수사는 작품 속에 강하게 새겨져 있는 성서적 장치들 속에서 부정되고 비판되고 있다. ‘과학’과 ‘부’가 사람들에게 제시하는 유토피아적 이상이 지니는 허위성이 성서적 장치의 은유 를 통해 예지되고 있다는 것이다. 그러나 작품은 그와 같은 허위적 유토피아 상상을 비판하는 동시에 인간 본연의 고결함을 드러내는 데 심혈을 기울이며, 권력의 사악함과 인간의 욕망이 초래한 한 세계의 종말이 인간 내면의 숭고한 열정에 불을 지피고 새로운 세계의 생성을 예비해주는 계기가 될 수 있다는 점을 보여준다. 이와 같은 내용은 작품 속 성서적 장치의 의미가 단순히 한 세계의 돌이킬 수 없는 멸망을 보여주기 보다는 끊임없이 생성과 몰락이 반복되는 변증법적 세계상을 보여주고 있음을 시사해준다.

The purpose of this study is to find out what the implications of the ‘biblical device’ reflected in the novel The Dream of Ding’s village in the context of contemporary Chinese society. After reform and opening, China has used ‘science’ and ‘wealth’ as important ideological keywords to control and stabilize society, while on the one hand it inspired human desire and on the other hand it controlled it. The above works show that such rhetoric of ‘science’ and ‘wealth’ is acting as a medium to urge the people of the Ding’s village selling blood. And the rhetoric of such powers are being denied and criticized in the biblical devices. The fictitious ideology of utopian ideals presented to people by ‘science’ and ‘wealth’ is predicted through the metaphor of biblical devices. However, not only does the work criticize such fictitious utopia imagery and reveal the nobleness of mankind, but also the end of a world caused by evil power and a desperate desire ignite the sublime passion of man and prepares the creation. It suggests that the meaning of the biblical device in the work shows a dialectical world image in which the creation and the fall are constantly repeated rather than showing the irreversible destruction of a world.
