Analysis of Operation and Development of Online Learning Systems for Software Education

This study introduces a case of operating the online learning systems for the activation of Software Education as computer science in Korea. Software Education in Korea has emphasized a having computational thinking through a programmable computing capabilities. We have designed the online learning systems that are easy for users to access. Learning areas are divided into six categories: programming, computer science theory, physical computing, computational thinking, software education, and convergent computing. A total of 45 learning courses were developed. The learning time in content was shortened to 10-20 minutes so that learners could learn easily. As a result of the operation of the system, users have been steadily increasing since 2016. The average monthly number of users in 2016 was 3,056, and 3,463 in 2017, 4,365 monthly averages in 2018, which is an annual increase. As a result of detailed analysis, users increased in June and November. This shows that elementary and junior high school students have used the system as a pre-vacation activity. To expand the base of Software Education, online learning system by developing in this study is expected to present a number of roles.
