본 연구는 BMI 잠재 사용자를 대상으로 수요조사를 실시하고, 이를 분석하여 향후 국내 BMI 연구 및 개발방향을 제시하고자 하는 연구이다. 브레인스토밍(Brain storming)기법과 마인드매핑(Mind mapping) 기법을 활용하여 설문조사 문항을 개발하였다. 설문 문항은 개인적 특성, 재활보조기술을 일상생활에서 사용하는 정도, 뇌-기계 인터페이스 기술 인식조사, 뇌-기계 인터페이스 기술 선호(기능)조사로 구성된다. BMI 잠재 사용자를 대상으로 전체 60명(척수손상환자, 신경근육질환자 각 30명)에게 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 선정 기준으로는 척수손상과 신경근육질환으로 인해 운동기능 또는 의사소통에 장애가 있는 사람을 대상으로 설문조사하였다. BMI기술로 구현하기 원하는 기능은 환경제어(91.6%), 손작업(90%)과 통신(90%), 이동수단(86.7%), 컴퓨터(78.3%)순으로 조사되었다. 실제 BMI 기술 사용 의사에 대한 응답으로 ‘비침습적 방법 이용’이 55%, ‘침습적 방법 이용’이 35%, ‘사용하지 않겠다’가 3.3%, ‘모르겠다’가 6.7%로 나타났다. 본 설문의 결과로 BMI 기술의 사용의사는 매우 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 뇌-기계 인터페이스의 수요자인 적용 대상자(환자, 장애인)들의 수요 조사 결과를 바탕으로 향후 BMI 기술 적용 방향을 정의할 수 있을 것이다.
The purpose of this study was to conduct a survey on what BMI potential users wanted with the technology and to use the results as guiding lights for future BMI research and development. The survey questions were developed by brain storming and mind mapping. It consisted of the questions about participants demographic information, their personal usages of ordinary assistive devices in everyday life, and their perceptions preferences, and experiences of the BMI technology. Included in this study were 60 people with motor dysfunctions due to spinal cord injury or neuromuscular diseases (30 with spinal cord injury, 30 with neuromuscular disorder). They wanted to use the BMI technology most for environmental control(91.6%), followed by manipulation(90%), communication(90%), mobility(86.7%) and then for computer access(78.3%). Those who actually wanted to use a BMI technology system preferred a non-invasive method(55%) compared to an invasive one(35%). and 3.3% of people didn t want to use any BMI technology system at all. We found that the desire for using BMI was pretty high with the potential users of this technology. Our study would shed some lights on how and where this state-of-the-art technology should be going in the future. It was concluded that the research and development of BMI technology must be sensitive to potential users needs and demands.
