지역사회 정신장애인의 사회적 기능과 증상이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향

The Effects of Social Function and Symptoms on the Quality of Life among the Mentally Ill Living in the Community

본 연구는 정신장애인의 사회적 기능과 증상이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 이에 근거하여 실천적 함의를 제시하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 위하여 지역사회에서 생활하는 정신장애인 240명을 연구대상으로 하였다. 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정신장애인의 일반적 특성 중에서는 경제상태가 삶의 질에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 경제상태가 어려울수록 삶의 질이 더 낮아진다는 것을 의미하고 있다. 둘째, 정신장애인의 사회적 기능과 증상은 삶의 질에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 정신장애인의 사회적 기능이 높을수록, 증상이 적을수록 삶의 질이 높아진다는 것을 의미한다. 셋째, 정신장애인의 사회적 기능과 증상이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에서 두 요인의 영향력의 크기는 사회적 기능이 증상에 비하여 더 큰것으로 나타났다. 이는 정신장애인의 삶의 질에 있어서 사회적 기능의 영향이 더 중요하다는 것을 의미하고 있다. 이러한 연구결과를 통해 사회적 기능과 증상이 정신장애인의 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 정신장애인의 삶의 질을 향상시키는 방안에 대하여 제언하였다.

This study was conducted to find out the effects of social function and symptoms of the mentally ill on their quality of life. The subjects of this study were the 240 mentally ill, who were residing in community. The results of this study are as follows. First, the economic status of the mentally ill had significant effect on their quality of life. The lower their economic status, their quality of life was lower. Second, social function of the mentally ill had significant effect on their quality of life but their symptoms had no significant effect. This result means the mentally ill with higher social function have higher quality of life. Third, the effect of social function was stronger than the one of symptoms on the quality of life among the mentally ill. Based on these findings, the effects of social function of the mentally ill on their quality of life were identified. The practical strategies of intervention to improve their quality of life for the mentally illwere suggested.
