Concept Analysis of Burnout in Nurses in Long-term Care Hospitals

  • 276

Purpose: This study involves a concept analysis to clarify the conceptual meaning of burnout in nurses in long-term care hospitals and identify its properties. Methods: Research was conducted using Walker and Avant’s concept analysis process. Results: Burnout in nurses in long-term care hospitals involved psychological and physical fatigue, role conflict, excessive workload, skepticism, and lethargy due to a decline in the sense of individual accomplishment. The antecedent factors included an increase in the nursing needs of care recipients and their families, lack of nursing workforce, and unsystematic workforce management. The results demonstrated that burnout was associated with a decline in nurses’ physical and psychological function, negative emotion, indifference, decreased job satisfaction, and an increase in turnover intention. Conclusion: The findings of this study should be applied to research to verify the effects of intervention programs for burnout in nurses in long-term care hospitals.
