이 논문은 재활상담사의 교육 수준, 업무수행능력, 그리고 장애인 내담자의 재활 성과 사이의 관계에 관한 문헌 고찰을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이 글에 소재된 모든 연구들의 연구결과는 한결 같이 재활상담학 석사 이상의 학력을 소지한 재활상담사가 학부과정만 이수하였거나 비전공 분야 출신의 재활상담사들보다 장애인 내담자의 과용성 측면에서 훨씬 뛰어난 성과를 보인다고 지적하고 있다. 이들 연구결과들은 또한 양질의 재활전문가를 양성하기 위해서는 재활상담사 교육 과정은 석사중심으로 그 무게중심을 옮겨야 한다는 점을 암시하고 있다. 따라서 이 글의 끝부분에서는 대학원 중심의 재활상담사 양성 교육과정으로의 무게 중심 이동이 지니는 함의에 대한 논의를 제시하였다.
This paper reviewed numerous studies relevant to the relationship among the education level of rehabilitation counselors, counselor job performance, and employment outcomes of clients with disabilities. Findings of all studies reviewed in this paper suggested that rehabilitation counselors with at least a master s degree demonstrated better employment outcomes than their counterparts with a bachelor s degree. Findings also indicated that pre-service education should be geared to focusing on graduate-level academic training in order to increase the number of qualified rehabilitation service providers. Finally, the broader implications of graduate training for rehabilitation counseling professionals were presented.
