  • 61

According to intrinsic and extrinsic justification of education, the characteristics of educational contents makes a great difference. In case that education is justified in intrinsic viewpoint, education can be achieved for its own values and it s contents can be included the body of knowledge and the form of knowledge, which was necessary to understand and explain the actual phenomena. However, in case that education is justified in extrinsic viewpoint that education is means to be useful for personal and social interests or needs, students should be taught the knowledge to be required for solutions of practical problem situations or practical activities themselves. In two approaches of education, the different aspects on curriculum contents of technology education was identified. First, technology should be identified as the body of knowledge and the form of knowledge which was accumulated through human experiences. Thus, curriculum contents of technology education consisted of manufacture, construction, transportation, communication and bio-related technology. Second, curriculum contents of technology education was not simple manual skills for everyday life or repeated activities lacked cognitive thinking process, but the knowledge to be required for solutions of technological problem or practical activities themselves to be essentially included cognitive thinking process. Therefore, curriculum contents of technology education should consist of problem-solving and(or) design processes based on technological knowledge for social and student s interests or needs.
