Classification of course program types in maker education

메이커 교육은 메이커 운동이 전 세계적으로 확산되면서 등장하였으며 많은 교육 현장에서 다양한 메이커 교육 수업이 이루어지고 있다. 이후, 다양한 교육 현장의 교육자들이 메이커 교육에 관심을 가지고 있지만 메이커 교육을 선정하기 위한 기초자료가 부족하다. 현장 교육자들이 각 교육 현장에 맞는 메이커 교육을 선정하기 위해서는 다양한 메이커 교육의 유형과 그 특징들을 제시할 필요가 있다. 하지만 메이커 교육을 유형화하고 그 특징을 정리하는 연구는 메이커 교육 이니셔티브[1]에서 제시한 4가지 접근법인 질문기반 접근법, 프로젝트 기반 접근법, 팅커링 기반 접근법, 디자인 사고 접근법 외에는 찾기 어렵다. 이 4가지 유형을 바탕으로 다양한 교육 현장의 메이커 수업을 분류하는 것은 적합하지 않은데, 메이커 수업을 구분하는 특징이 교육적 맥락보다는 단편적인 형태적 특징에 초점을 맞추고 있기 때문이다. 이 4가지 유형을 바탕으로 현장에서 이루어지는 메이커 교육 수업을 구분하려 하면 각 특징들을 모두 포함하고 있는 수업이 많아 구분이 되지 않는다. 이 연구의 목적은 메이커 교육 수업 관련 문헌을 분석하고 교육 현장 맥락에 따라 메이커 교육 수업의 유형을 제시하는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 메이커 교육 수업을 유형화하기 위해 메이커 교육의 목적과 절차 등을 상세히 소개하는 국내 및 해외의 40개 문헌을 선정하였다. 이후 선정된 문헌에서 소개하는 각 메이커 수업의 학습목표와 내용, 절차, 수업 환경, 학습자, 기타 특징을 분석하였다. 연구 결과 과학/소프트웨어 교육 연계 메이커 교육, 실제적 문제해결 메이커 교육, 미술관/박물관 전시물 연계 메이커 교육, 학습자 자율 주제 메이커 교육, 진로탐색 체험 메이커 교육으로 5개 메이커 교육 유형이 도출되었다. 메이커 교육 이니셔티브[1]에서 제시한 유형과 달리 교육적 맥락을 고려한 메이커 교육 분류는 향후 다양한 현장 교육자들이 메이커 교육을 선택하고자 할 때, 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Maker education has emerged as the maker movement spreads around the world, and various maker education courses are being conducted in many educational fields. Then, educators in various educational fields have been interested in maker education but basic data to select maker education is lacked. In order for educators to select appropriate maker education, it is necessary to present types of maker education course. However, it is hard to find the study to classify and characterize maker education, except for the 4 approaches suggested by the Maker Education Initiative[1]: question-based approach, project-based approach, tinkering-based approach, and design thinking approach. Based on these 4 types, it is not appropriate to classify the maker classes in various educational fields because the feature that distinguishes maker education courses focuses on fragmentary features rather than educational context. And there are many maker education courses that include all the features of these 4 types. The purpose of this study is to analyze the literature related to maker education courses and to suggest the types of maker education according to the context of educational field. In this study, 40 articles were selected. After then, we analyzed the learning objectives, contents, procedures, class environment, learners, and other characteristics of each maker courses introduced in the selected literature. As a result, 5 types of maker education were derived from maker education related to science/software education link, maker education related to actual problem solving, maker education linking museum/exhibit, learner autonomic topic maker education, career search experience maker education. Unlike the type presented in the Maker Education Initiative[1], the maker education classification in this study is expected to be used as a basic data when various field educators choose the maker education in the future.
