Analysis of Humor in Schumann s Humoreske

이 연구는 슈만(Robert A. Schumann, 1810-1856)의 ｢유머레스크｣(Humoreske, Op. 20)에 나타난 그의 유머를 연구한 것으로, 전통과 혁신의 공존과 미적 통합이 유머 표현의 한 방법임을 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 제2장에서 슈만에게 큰 영향을 준 초기 낭만주의 예술관에 대해 살펴보며 전통적, 규칙적인 것에서 벗어나려는 초기 낭만주의자들의 발상이 어떠한 배경에서 착안되었는지, 이러한 발상이 어떻게 낭만적 유머 개념으로 연결되었는지, 음악에서는 어떠한 형태로 나타났는지, 초기 낭만주의자들 중 특히 슈만과 깊은 연관을 보이는 장 파울(Jean Paul Richter, 1763-1825)을 슈만이 어떻게 접하였는지, 장 파울의 낭만적 유머가 슈만에게 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지, 슈만의 유머는 무엇인지 연구하였다. 그 다음 제3장에서 ｢유머레스크｣의 분석을 통하여 이 작품에 표현된 슈만의 유머를 규명하였다. 이 작품은 단일악장으로 보인다는 점에서 형식적 모호함을 갖는다. 또한 일반적인 관행에서 벗어나는 혁신적 시도는 모호함을 보여준다. 그러나 이러한 모호함은 내재한 유기적 관계로 이면적으로 새로운 질서를 생성하여 작품 전체의 통합에 기여하고 형식의 틀을 제공함으로써 전체를 확립시키는 기제로서 작용한다. 이는 고루한 현실 세계를 부정하는 낭만적 정신의 표현이며, 현실 세계와 이상 세계와의 분리를 미적 통합을 통하여 극복한 슈만의 유머작법이라 할 수 있다.

This study set out to investigate the humor of Robert A. Schumann(1810-1856) in his Humoreske, Op. 20, demonstrating that the coexistence and aesthetic integration of tradition and innovation was a way of his humor expression. For this, Chapter 2 looked into the views of art in early Romanticism that had huge impacts on Schumann, covering what background the idea of escaping from the traditional and regular things was conceived by early Romanticists, how this idea was connected to the romantic concept of humor, what forms it took in music, how Schumann got to meet Jean Paul Richter(1763-1825), one of early Romanticists deeply connected to Schumann, what kind of impact Richter s romantic humor had on him, and what his humor was like. Chapter 3 analyzed Humoreske and examined his humor expressed in it. This work seems to have a single movement, thus having ambiguity in its form. Its innovative attempt at escaping from the general practice also adds ambiguity. This ambiguity, however, represents an organic relation inherent in the work, serving as a mechanism to expand the whole by creating a new order on the other side, contributing to the integration of the entire work, and offering a framework of forms. It was the expression of romantic spirit to deny the outdated real world and Schumann s writing technique based on his humor to overcome the separation between the real and ideal worlds through their aesthetic integration.
