The objective of the paper is to investigate how learning materials are recommended to use in the 5th grade English teachers’ books based on the 2015 revised national curriculum. To this end, the first and last lessons of the 5 grade English teachers’ books are analyzed using an Analytic Scheme of Learning Materials Use (ASLMU). The noted findings are: Teachers’ books primarily recommend teachers to use learning materials in order to improve student s self-directed learning competency. Secondly, learning materials shown on the teachers’ books are textbooks, CD-ROM and worksheets which are all provided by publishers along with the English teachers’ books. Thirdly, majority of learning materials are for teaching purposes and teacher-directed, which is contrary to the self-directed management of students’ learning in the original intention of the textbooks.
