본 연구는 초등학교 입학 전 유아의 학교 준비도가 초등학교 입학 후 학업 수행능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 이러한 영향 관계에서 아동의 집행기능이 매개역할을 하는지 알아보고자 수행되었다. 한국아동패널의 7차연도(2014)와 8차연도(2015) 데이터를 활용하여 최종 선정된 318명의 남아와 282명의 여아를 분석대상으로 하였다. 학교 준비도와 학업 수행, 집행기능 간 관계를 알아보기 위해 상관분석과 회귀분석을 실시하고 구조방정식 모형에 의한 경로 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 초등학교 입학 전 유아의 학교 준비도와 초등학교 입학 후 학업 수행능력, 집행기능은 모두 유의미한 상관관계를 갖고 있으며, 학교 준비도와 집행기능은 아동의 학업 수행능력을 의미있게 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학교 준비도는 초등학교 입학 후의 학업 수행에 직접적인 효과를 보이기도 하지만, 집행기능을 통해 유의미한 간접 효과를 보여주기도 함으로써 아동의 집행기능이 학교 준비도와 학업 수행능력 간에 부분 매개 효과를 보이고 있음을 확인하였다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between kindergartners’ school readiness (SR) and their academic performance (AP) in first grade, as well as the mediating effect of executive function (EF), if any. Data from the 7th (2014, kindergartners) and 8th (2015, first graders) Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC) were used in this study. Results showed that children’s AP was significantly related to their EF and SR. Furthermore, low scores for SR was associated with more EF difficulties in children. Children’s EF and SR predicted their AP at significant levels. Moreover, all path coefficients were statistically significant. Children’s SR had a direct influence on their AP a year after they joined school, and an indirect influence on EF. Both the total effect from SR to AP, and the indirect effect were significant. In conclusion, the EF played a partial mediating role on a child’s SR to AP.
