모의 양육스트레스가 부의 결혼만족도에 미치는 영향에서 부가 지각한 부부갈등 및 온정적 양육행동의 매개효과: 부의 우울과 자아존중감의 조절효과를 중심으로

Conflict in Marital Relationship Impacts a Mother’s Parenting Ability and Marital Satisfaction: The Moderating Effect of a Father s Self-Esteem

본 연구의 목적은 모의 양육스트레스가 부의 결혼만족도 간의 관계에서 부가 지각한 부부갈등 및 온정적 양육행동의 매개효과를 검증하고, 더불어 부의 심리적 변인인 우울과 자아존중감의 조절효과를 검증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 육아정책연구소의 한국아동패널 7차 년도 데이터(Panel Study on Korean Children, 2014)로 1,473개의 데이터를 횡단가중치를 이용하여 상하 우울 집단, 상하 자아존중감 집단으로 분류하였다. 자녀의 성별, 부의 연령 및 학력, 그리고 가구소득을 통제하고 경로분석과 다중집단 비교분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 모의 양육스트레스와 부의 결혼만족도의 관계에서 부의 부부갈등과 온정적 양육행동은 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 모의 양육스트레스와 부의 결혼만족도의 관계에서 부의 우울과 자아존중감은 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 부의 우울 수준은 부부갈등과 결혼만족도의 경로에 영향을 미치고, 부의 자아존중감 수준은 양육스트레스와 결혼만족도의 경로에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 부의 결혼만족도에서 우선적으로 고려되어야 할 변인들 간의 관계를 밝혔다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이러한 연구결과의 기초로 부의 개인적 특성에 따라 더 나은 결혼생활을 위하여 개입과 중재에 대한 논의 및 후속 연구에 대해 제언을 제시하였다.

This study examined the influence of marital conflict upon a father’s parenting skills, and its subsequent impact on a mother’s marital satisfaction and parenting ability. The analyses were performed using cross-sectional weights from 1,473 samples from the seventh Panel Study on Korean Children; the samples were classified into groups of high and low depression, and high and low self-esteem. Path analysis and multiple group comparison analysis were conducted; the controlling factors were the child’s sex, the father’s age, education, and household income. The results were as follows: First, a father’s conflictual marital relationship and poor parenting behavior caused the mother to negotiate between her dual role of parent and partner; she had to strike a balance between parenting stress and partner’s satisfaction. Second, a father’s depression and poor self-esteem adversely affected a mother’s parenting skills and marital satisfaction. Therefore, a father’s mental state was a key factor that affected the path from marital conflict to satisfaction; his poor self-esteem led to greater parenting stress. This study is significant because it reveals that the primary factor for consideration in a marital relationship is a father’s marital satisfaction. It suggests the scope for intervention and further research. The study infers that a prior understanding of a man’s personal traits could facilitate better marriages.
