The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of client-centered occupational therapy on stroke patients in regards to their upper extremity function and activities of daily living (ADL). The subjects were diagnosed with a stroke at a special hospital in D metropolitan city from April 2018 to June 2018. 20 patients, who were hospitalized and found to have no cognitive problems, were selected and divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group then received client-centered occupational therapy. Afterwards, all the subjects were assessed using COPM, MFT for upper limb function, and MBI for activities of daily living. The results of the study showed that the control group, which received traditional occupational therapy, showed significant differences in upper extremity function and ADL after the intervention. However COPM did not experience the same differences. In the experimental group, which underwent both client-centered occupational therapy and traditional occupational therapy, there was a significant difference in upper extremity function, activities of daily living (ADL) and COPM after the intervention. These results suggest that client-centered occupational therapy will positively affect the upper limb function and independent ADL of stroke patients along with inceasing their participation in the intervention.
