조현병 관련 언론보도에 관한 내용분석

Content Analysis of News Reports Related to Schizophrenia

본 연구의 목적은 조현병 관련 언론의 보도 경향을 분석함으로써 조현병에 대한 사회적 편견 해소를 위한 전략 수립의 기초 자료를 제공하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 2014년 5월 1일부터 2018년 5월 31일까지 4년간 보도된 네이버 포털사이트 내 조현병 관련 모바일 뉴스 1,419건에 대한 내용분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 조현병에 관한 부정적인 기사의 비율이 2014년 18.5%에서 2016년 39.4%까지 급격히 증가하였다가 2017년 다소 감소하였으나 2018년 여전히 30% 이상의 높은 비율을 보여주고 있음을 알 수 있다. 특히, 기사유형에 따른 내용을 구체적으로 살펴보면, 정보제공 기사의 부정적인 시각의 기사 비율이 9.5%임에 반해 사건 보도에서는 45%를 차지했다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 볼 때, 대중매체의 올바른 언론보도를 위한 지속적인 모니터링, 언론인의 정신질환자에 대한 차별과 편견 감소를 위한 교육 프로그램 개발 등 대중매체를 정신장애인에 대한 편견 해소에 긍정적인 수단으로 활용하기 위한 사회복지적 노력이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

The purpose of this study was to provide data on the strategy for solving social prejudice against schizophrenia by analyzing media trends related to schizophrenia. The sample of the study consisted of 1,419 mobile news related to schizophrenia in the NAVER portal site in the period of four years from May 1, 2014 to May 31, 2018. Study results indicate that the ratio of negative views on schizophrenia abruptly increased from 18.5% in 2014 to 39.4% in 2016, and then slightly decreased in 2017, but still shows a high ratio with more than 30%. In addition, when looking at specific contents according to the article type, the proportion of negative views on the information-providing articles was 9.5%, while there was 45% on the case reports. Therefore, it is required to continuously monitor for the accurate reporting of the mass media and to develop educational programs to reduce prejudice and discrimination by journalists about people with mental disorders. Also, social welfare efforts will be needed to use the mass media as a means to positively influence prejudice resolution regarding people with mental disorders.
