순우리말 북한 수학 용어에 대한 학생들의 인식 조사

A survey on Students Understanding of Pure Korean Mathematics Terminologies Used in North Korea

우리나라 학교 수학 용어의 대부분이 한자어인 것과는 달리 북한에서는 여전히 ‘씨수’, ‘곁수’, ‘마디’, ‘같기식’, ‘늘같기식’, ‘안같기식’과 같은 순우리말 수학 용어를 보존하여 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 순우리말 수학 용어를 포함한 북한의 수학 용어를 우리나라 학생들이 얼마나 친숙하게 혹은 이질적으로 인식하고 이해하는지 분석하였다. 그 결과 학생들의 인식에서 남북한 수학 용어의 이질화를 확인할 수 있었고, 저학년일수록 순우리말 수학 용어가 학생들에게 쉽게 받아들여질 가능성이 크다는 것을 확인하였다. 특히 우리가 일상생활에서 흔히 사용하는 순우리말이 포함된 수학 용어는 용어 그 자체가 개념을 풀어 쓴 설명으로 받아들여져 학생들이 쉽게 그 의미를 이해하는 것으로 나타났다.

This paper attempted to examine students` comprehensive understanding of pure korean mathematics terminologies in North Korea. Survey items were developed based on mathematics terminologies seen in North Korean mathematics textbooks and researches on understanding of mathematics terminologies were conducted. Through the researches on understanding of North Korean mathematics terminologies, it gave an opportunity to identify the heterogeneity in mathematics terminologies between South and North Korea and rediscover the necessity of integrating mathematics terminologies between South and North Korea. Furthermore, it is expected that mathematics terminologies that allow future Korean students in unified Korea to have an mathematically appreciative eye and mathematical thought.
