대학생의 사회비교 경향성이 물질주의를 매개로 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향

Effects of College Students Social Comparison Orientation on Life Satisfaction through materialism

현대사회에서는 끊임없이 다른 사람과 자신을 비교하는 상황에 놓이고 있으나, 선행연구는 다른 사람과 비교하는 경향성이 클수록 행복에 방해된다고 주장하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대학생을 대상으로 사회비교경향성이 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는지, 그리고 물질주의가 매개역할을 하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구를 위해 대학생 451명에게 사회비교경향성, 물질주의, 삶의 만족도 대한 설문을 실시하였다. 이후 전체 변인들 간의 상관관계와 위계적 회귀분석, 매개분석을 하였다. 연구 결과, 사회비교 경향성은 삶의 만족도에 부적인 영향을 주었다. 그리고 물질주의 역시 삶의 만족도에 부적영향을 미쳤다. 사회비교 경향성이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향에 대해 물질주의가 매개변인으로 작용하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 대학생의 삶의 만족도를 향상시키기 위해서는, 사회비교와 물질주의 가치관에 관한 교육적 및 문화적 프로그램의 필요성을 시사한다. 본 연구의 상담학적 함의 및 제한점들이 논의되었다.

Recent many peoples in competitive society are conscious of others and compares themselves with others. However prior studies argues that the more people are compared to others, the less happy they are. This study investigates whether social comparison orientation would be effect on life satisfaction. And the study explores that the materialism would be effect on life satisfaction. Also, the study explores that materialism could be a mediation role between social comparison orientation and life satisfaction. A total of 451 students were surveyed regarding social comparison orientation, materialism, and life satisfaction. As a result, we found that the higher social comparison orientation, the lower the satisfaction level of life. And it was found that materialism mediated between social comparison orientation and life satisfaction. Therefore, to enhance satisfaction of life for college student, it is necessary to build effective strategies and education programs to reduce social comparison orientation and materialism. The implications for the study were discussed.
