여가상담의 개관과 향후 과제

Overview and Implication of Leisure Counseling

본 논문의 목적은 여가 상담의 정의, 역사, 대상, 적용 분야 및 상담자 역할을 간략하게 개관하여 여가상담에 대한 이해를 돕는 데 있다. 이를 위해 기존의 여가 상담의 연구들과 자료들을 통합적으로 검토하여 제시하였다. 여가 상담은 훈련된 상담자가 개인 혹은 그룹의 내담자를 도와 개인의 여가 흥미나 태도를 측정하여 자신에게 맞는 여가에 연계하거나 여가에 대한 생각을 자극한다. 여가 상담은 자신에게 맞는 여가 활동을 연계하므로 개인이 노동 시간 외의 시간을 유용하고 만족하게 보내서 삶에 대한 만족을 높이게 돕는다. 여가 상담은 치료적 목적을 갖기도 하여 개인 상담에서와 마찬가지로 내담자의 여가 태도나 자기 개념, 사회적 대처 기술, 행동 장애, 주변 지원 체계 등에 관해 면밀히 검토한다. 여가 상담의 이해를 돕기 위해 여러 다양한 분야에서 다루어지는 접근 방법을 소개하였다. 또한 여가 상담의 실제로 Edwards가 제시하는 첫 면담, 사정, 분석, 종결까지의 단계별 진행과정을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 여가 상담의 향후 방향과 과제를 제시하고 논의하였다.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce leisure counseling by providing a brief overview of the definition, history, potential clients, applications, and roles of the counselor. Existing research on leisure counseling was reviewed and integrated. Leisure counseling focuses on supporting individual clients or groups to increase their satisfaction with life by using their free time meaningfully. To this end, leisure counseling measures the leisure interests and attitudes of clients, facilitates discussions about potentially meaningful activities, and links clients to opportunities to participate in their chosen leisure activities. Leisure counseling can be used therapeutically, as counselors closely examine each client s attitudes, self-concept, social coping skills, behavioral disabilities, and support systems and then develop individualized support. This paper introduces multiple approaches to leisure counseling, as well as the leisure counseling process as developed by Edwards. Finally, future directions and tasks related to implementation of leisure counseling are discussed.
