The purpose of this study is to examine how the peer counseling training and activity affects peer counselor. That is, it is to explore the effects of the peer counseling training on peer counselor s Perceived Competence. In order to achieve these purposes, the subjects of this study were 40 students who recommended by class teacher from the 6st graders in a elementary school in Daegu, Both sexes 20 out of 40 students were selected randomly as a experimental group, and the other 20 were as a control group. The experimental group took the peer counseling training program developed by Korean Adolescent Counselling Institute once a week 40~50 minutes totally for 11 times. After the program, 12 of them were peer counselors for a semester (11 weeks). Harter s Perceived Competence Scale(PCS) interpreted by Lee Myung-Sook(1994) and Class Cohesiveness Scale developed by Lee Un-Sik(1992) and complemented by Lee Sang-Hee(2000) were used for measurement. To testify the average differences between the experimental measurement. To testify the average differences between the experimental group and the control group, ANCOV A was used through SPSS WIN program as a data processing. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, the peer counseling training had an affirmative effects on peer counselor s self-esteem, social competence and conduct behavior subscales in the Perceived Competence scale. Second, the peer counseling training had not an affirmative effects on peer counselor s scholastic competence, motion competence and physical attraction subscales in the Perceived Competence scale.
