This study examined the relationships between child s temperament and coping behavior with stress according to child s sex. The subjects for this study were 322 children of 5-6th grade selected from elementary schools in Busan. Han s questionnaires(1996) on child s temperament and Min & Yu s questionnaires(1998) on child s coping behavior with stress were used. Statistical techniques such as ANOVA, Pearson s correlation, canonical correlation analysis were used. The results were as follows: (1) The girls showed more positive temperament than boys. And the girls showed higher passive and social support seeking than the boys. (2) The more child s temperament is positive, the more they used active and social support seeking coping. Also the less girl s emotionality is positive, the more passive coping. (3) Among three dimensions of temperament for boy, the effective dimension was activity. The effective dimension among five dimensions of coping behavior with stress was active coping. For girls, the effective dimension of temperament was emotionality, And the effective dimension of coping behavior with stress was active coping.
