This study was to investigate the effect of 1:1 mentoring counseling on the disrupted behavior and psychopathology change in adolescent criminals. 5 adolescents who were charged by Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency because of their criminal behaviors were performed 1:1 mentoring counseling program for 5 months and the follow-up activity for 7 months. The conclusions of this study were summarized as follows; First, the mentoring counseling for the adolescent criminals has the positive effect on decreasing the level of depression, antisocial behavior, schizophrenic symptoms and suicide ideation. Second, the assertive behavior was improved rightly after 1:1 mentoring counseling program were done, but the keeping behavior of social rules, interpersonal relationship, the scores of overall disrupted behaviors were positively changed after the follow-up activity for 7 months. Third, the unique personality traits of adolescent criminals, such as a borderline personality tendency, paranoid thinking, and aggressiveness, were not changed by the mentoring counseling. This results imply that in-depth changes on the adolescent criminal s behavior were not done by the short term mentoring counseling, but were accomplished by its continuing mentoring counseling. Fourth, this study suggested that the mentoring counseling of para-professionals, such as a trainee for criminal psychologist, is helpful to change the maladaptive behavior and to prevent the repetitive criminal behaviors of the adolescents criminals.
