The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Life-Centered Career Education Program on improving pre-vocational skills essential to the vocational readiness of persons with mental retardation. Specially, the program was proved that effects in terms of three skills training areas, such as the Developmental Assessment, Social/Interpersonal Skills, and Money Handling Skills. The program was administered to a group of fifteen subjects from 4/4/99 to 3/9/99 by the researcher and two assistant teachers. Before administrating the program, the researcher evaluated Developmental Assessment, Social/Interpersonal and Independent Skills and Money Handling Skills. The program consists of 2 hours per day, 5 days a week during 5 months. The researcher conducted a post-test of the research subjects. The training program used in the study was revised by the researcher, and two measures of equivalent forms were made for pre-vocational skills between pre- and post- training. The main conclusions from results and analysis as follows. First, the life-centered career education training program bought about the increasingly developmental assessment of patterning and matching/vocational knowledge/measurement subjects. Second, the life-centered career education training program bought about the increasingly social/interpersonal skills of all subjects. Third, the life-centered career education training program bought about the increasingly money handling skills of coin discrimination and coin preparation subjects. It can be inferred from the above conclusion that the life-centered career education program appropriate for the mental retarded. and It is suggested that life-centered career education program have to be included into curriculum of mental retarded and then the study to be compatible school to work transition program of mental retarded.
