Hannah Arendt and Judaism

이 논문은 유대인으로서의 아렌트의 사상적 경험에 초점을 맞추어 서술한 연구논문이다. 아렌트는 민족으로서나 종교로서 유대주의 혹은 유대교와 영향을 주고받지 않았다. 또한 반셈주의에 대한 유대인의 잘못된 접근들에 대해서도 신랄하게 비판한다. 또한 헤르츨의 시온주의를 비판하면서 라자르의 시온주의에서 강조한 자각적 파리아 개념에서 유대인의 역사적 역할에 대한 깨달음을 얻는다. 아렌트는 정치적으로 유대인들이 생존과 자립을 위해 어떤 방향의 길을 선택해야 하는지에 관심을 갖고 유대인 관련 주제들에 접근했지만, 결국 이 작업을 바탕으로 아렌트는 개인들이 자각적 의식을 갖고 올바른 정치판단을 기반으로 한 정치적 대화를 일구어 내는 정치사상으로 나아갔다.

This article is a study on Hannah Arendt’s theoretical encounter with Jew-related political issues. Arendt did not give nor take strong influence with regard to Judaism. She harshly criticized Jewish people’s wrong approaches to antisemitism. While being critical to Hertzl’s Zionism, she learned about the historical role of the Jewish people from Lassare’s concept of the conscious pariah. Arendt’s critical encounter with Jew-related issues eventually drove her to establish a political thought on the basis of political judgment along with political awareness.
