이상정(李象靖)의 『퇴계서절요(退溪書節要)』 편집 방법과 목적

Yi Sang Jung’s Methods and Aims of the Compilation of Yi Hwang’s Letters

『퇴계집』이 간행된 후 일정한 시간이 흐르자 절요가 만들어졌다. 정혼의 『이자서절요』와 이상정의 『퇴계서절요』가 그것이다. 본고는 후자를 텍스트로 삼고 전자를 참고하여, 절요 현상에 나타나는 방법과 목적을 살펴본다. 이황이 『주자서절요』에서 사용한 주해(註解), 조합(組合), 산거(刪去), 선취(選取), 보존 등의 방법이 사용되었으니, 이것들이 문집 편성과 절요서 편집의 방침으로 굳혀졌음을 알 수 있다. 또 절요의 목적은 서적의 간행과 유통, 학습의 용이함을 얻는다는 단순한 것에 그치지 않는다. 궁극 목적은 후생들이 모범으로 삼아야할 정론을 이황의 서간문 속에서 찾는 데 있었다. 서간문에 있던 상대적·주관적·과정적 정보들을 생략하고, 대신 선택된 주요 서간문에 피력된 주장들이 절대성을 부여받는다. 이에 후학들이 표준으로 수용해야 할 집단의 견해가 제시된다. 그러나 어느 서간문이 이황의 정론인지의 판단에 있어서 선집자의 주관성을 넘어설 수 없다는 한계가 있다.

After a certain period of time after the publication of the Toe-Gye Writings, the essence of this was made. These compilations were made by Jeong Hon and Yi Sang-Jung. This paper uses the latter as text and the former as ancillary data, so examines the method and purpose of the phenomena called as the Compilation. As the method, the method of comment, combination, deletion, selection, preservation were used. In addition, it is not just the realization of the simple purpose of gaining the ease of publishing, distributing and learning books. The ultimate goal was to find the final conclusions in the Literary letters written by Yi’ Hwang, that those were supplied learning life models for future generations. It omitted the relative, subjective, and process informations, and instead gives it absoluteness to the arguments expressed in the selected major epistle. This establishes the standard views of Confucianist groups that scholars should accept and practice. These works were done in an atmosphere that respected Yi Hwang, working to further solidify the position of Lee Hwang and his theories.
