환경교과 역량 강화를 위한 예술의 역할: 생태작가 4인의 인식 탐색

The Role of Art in the Enhancement of Environmental Curriculum Competency: A Study on the Perceptions of Four Ecological Artists

핵심역량을 강조하는 2015 개정 환경교육과정의 시행과 전 국민의 환경감수성 향상 및 실질적인 행동변화를 유도하는 교육기반을 마련하고자하는 근래 환경부의 정책추진은 앞으로 환경교육이 좀 더 융합적이고 포괄적으로 이루어질 것임을 시사한다. 본 연구의 목적은 생태작가들의 어떤 경험과 인식이 환경과의 관계를 형성·발전시키고 환경작업을 지속하게 하는지를 탐색하여 환경교육에서 예술이 융합될 수 있는 가능성과 역할을 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 환경에 대한 개인적인 관심을 예술작업으로 풀어내고 있는 4명의 생태 작가들을 선정하여, 그들이 어떤 예술작업과정을 통해서 환경과의 관계를 만들어왔는지 그리고 그런 경험에 대해 어떻게 생각하는지 조사하였다. 작가별로 대면 또는 서면 인터뷰를 실시하였고, 친환경적 성향과 환경 감수성을 파악하기 위한 검사(NEP-R)를 순차적으로 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 질적 자료 분석 과정을 거쳐, 2015 개정 환경 교육과정에서 제시하고 있는 세 가지 역량요소와 비교하면서 환경교육 역량 강화에 기여하는 예술의 역할에 대해 논의하였다.

The enforcement of the 2015 revised national curriculum for an “Environment” subject that stresses core competencies and the recent policy of the Ministry of Environment, which was enforced to build an educational foundation to promote environmental sensitivity and a substantive behavioral change in the nation’s public, imply that environmental education hereafter should be carried out in a more integrative and comprehensive way. This study aims to explore the possibilities of integrating art into environmental education by examining the artist’s journey when approaching the environment from ecological perspectives and the impact of this journey on their perception of the environment. To this end, by selecting four ecological artists who have unraveled personal interests in the environment through art practice, this study investigates the artistic processes through which individual artists build their relationship with the environment and how they feel about such experiences. Data were sequentially collected using in-person interviews or written questionnaires, and an examination based on the New Ecological Paradigm-Revised (NEP-R) was used to collect pro-environmental disposition. The results of a qualitative analysis of the data were compared with the three competencies included in the 2015 revised curriculum for environmental education. This study discusses the role of art in the enhancement of environmental curriculum competency.
