서사적 시간의 개념에 기반한 소설문학 교육 연구: 2015 개정 문학교과서의 학습활동을 중심으로

The Analysis of Learning Activities Based on the Knowledge of Narrative Time: Focused on 2015 Curriculum and Literature Textbook

본고의 목표는 ‘시간’이 현대 소설 서사의 핵심적인 특징을 이루고 있다는 사실에 착안, 서사 시간과 관련된 문학지식이 실제 문학교과서에서 어떻게 구체화되고 있는지 살펴보는데 있다. 서사적 시간은 이야기의 배경을 구성하는 중요한 요소이며, 동시에 개별적 사건들을 하나의 연쇄된 이야기로 결합하는데 관여하는 핵심적인 원리 또는 그 효과라고 할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 시간은 이야기를 특별한 방식으로 전달하는 미학적 방법이고, 세계의 서로 연결되지 않는 사건들을 하나의 통일된 전체로 구성하는 질서이며, 지금-여기와는 다른-저곳의 시간과 마주하도록 만드는 공감의 근원이기도 하다. 서사의 존재론적, 미학적, 그리고 인식론적 차원에서 시간이 핵심적인 요소로 간주될 수 있는 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 문학교육의 현장에서 시간과 관련된 서사적 이해가 다소 제한적으로 이뤄지고 있다는 사실은 문제라 할 수 있다. 서사적 시간이 소설 교육의 익숙한 주제이기는 하지만, 실제로 시간에 대한 문학교육의 방법은 여전히 피상적인 수준에서 이뤄지고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본고는 서사 시간에 대한 이해가 소설문학을 이해하는 중요한 방식이 될 수 있다는 전제 아래, 실제 교육 현장에서 교수-학습되고 있는 문학교육의 내용을 검토하고자 한다.

The goal of this paper is to analyze the education of novels based on the knowledge of narrative time. In fact, time is an important component of narrative. It combines individual events into a single story and supports a specific background for the story. Time is also a key aesthetic principle of novels. For example, modern novels use the narrative time to hide events, reveal secrets, and trick readers. Despite the importance of time in novels, understanding on narrative time still remains insufficient in literary education. This study examined the learning activities included in the high school literature textbook. The study was aimed to examine the learning activities included in the high school literature textbook. Learning activities or questions for the students serve as guides to invite the students to read the text deeply. They are not just test questions, but include the knowledge of literature that students must learn. Therefore learning activities show what the present core content of literature education is, and how the knowledge of literature is structured in textbook. We can briefly learn how the time of novels is being handled by reviewing learning activities. This study is expected to help provide a desirable direction for the education of novels.
