고등학생의 비사교성과 정서적 부적응 및 심리적 안녕감의 관계: 성별과 자기결정적 고독동기의 조절효과

Unsociability, Emotional Maladjustment and Psychological Wellbeing in High School Students: Moderating Roles of Gender and Self-Determined Motivation for Solitude

연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 남녀 청소년의 비사교성 및 자기결정적 고독동기와 정서적 부적응의 지표들(사회불안, 우울, 외로움) 및 심리적 안녕감 간의 관계를 알아보고, 이러한 관계를 성별과 자기결정적 고독동기가 조절하는지를 검증하는 것이다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 한 광역시에 소재한 4개 고등학교 1, 2학년에 재학 중인 남녀 청소년 816명을 대상으로 연구 변인들을 측정하는 자기보고식 설문 조사를 시행하여 데이터를 수집하였다. 연구결과: 위계적 회귀분석 결과, 비사교성, 자기결정적 고독동기, 성별의 삼원상호작용 또는 이원상호작용 효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로, 남학생의 자기결정적 고독동기가 높을 때, 비사교성이 사회불안에 미치는 영향이 줄어들었으나 여학생의 경우 이러한 양상을 보이지 않았다. 또한 우울, 외로움, 심리적 안녕감의 경우, 성별과 상관없이 자기결정적 고독동기는 비사교성과 이러한 변인들 각각의 관계를 조절하였다. 논의 및 결론: 이러한 결과는 청소년 후기 비사교성의 기능적 함의가 자기결정적 고독동기와 같은 인본주의적 동기를 고려하여 이해될 수 있음을 보여주며, 사회적 위축의 한 하위유형으로서 아직 연구가 부족한 비사교성의 역할과 기저 동기를 보다 정교하게 이해하는 데 기여한다. 본 연구의 의의와 한계점, 후속연구를 위한 방향이 논의되었다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating roles of gender and self-determined motivation for solitude (SDMS) in the relationships between unsociability and several indices of emotional maladjustment (EM), including social anxiety, depression, and loneliness, and psychological wellbeing (PW) in Korean adolescents. Method: The self-report measures of unsociability, SDMS, EM, and PW were administered to 816 high school students (aged 15–18 yrs.) in Busan, Korea. Results: A series of hierarchical regression analyses revealed significant 3-way or 2-way interaction effects of unsociability, SDMS, and gender on indices of EM and PW. Unsociability had a diminished impact on social anxiety when SDMS was higher, but such a pattern was found only for males. For the other indices of EM and PW, SDMS was found to moderate the relationships between unsociability and EM and PW. Conclusions: Our findings imply that the meaning and adjustment implications of unsociability in Korean adolescents should be understood in consideration of a humanistic motivation such as SDMS, which calls for a more refined conceptualization of unsociability as a subtype of social withdrawal.
