Christian and Music as an Idol

이 연구는 음악이 축복과 저주의 양면성을 지니고 있으며 우상이 될 수도 있다고 경고한 엘렌 G. 화잇의 언급을 기독교인의 입장에서 분석한 것이다. 우선, 선악과 사건을 통해 음악이 저주가 될 수 있다는 의미를 추적하였다. 이어서 십계명의 둘째 계명과 넷째 계명에 나타난 우상숭배 금지의 맥락을 분석하면서 그것이 어떻게 현대적 의미로 재해석 될 수 있는지를 살펴보았다. 결론적으로 이 연구는 기독교인들에게 음악이 우상화 되는 것을 피하기 위해서는 이성과 감성, 영과 육의 섬세한 균형이 필요하다는 것을 제안한다.

This study analyzes, from the Christian perspective, Ellen G. White’s statement that music is both a blessing and a curse and can be an idol. First, we traced the meaning of music as a curse from the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and of evil. Then, by analyzing the context of the ban on idolatry in the second and fourth of the Ten Commandments, we examined how this ban can be reinterpreted in a modern sense. In conclusion, this study suggests that Christians must maintain a delicate balance between reason, emotion, spirit, and body to avoid making an idol out of music.
