불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족과 지각된 진로장벽의 관계: 사회비교 경향성과 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움의 매개효과 검증

The Relationship Between Intolerance of Uncertainty and Perceived Career Barriers: Testing the Mediating Effects of Social Comparison Orientation and Fear of Negative Evaluation

본 연구는 사회비교 경향성과 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움을 매개로 대학생의 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족이 지각된 진로장벽에 직·간접적인 영향을 미치는지 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족, 사회비교 경향성, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움과 지각된 진로장벽의 관계를 살펴보았고, 구조모형을 설정하여그 적합도와 개별 변수의 영향력을 살펴보았다. 연구를 위해 서울에 소재한 4년제 대학생 200명(남 68명, 여132명)을 대상으로 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족, 사회비교 경향성, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움, 지각된 진로장벽을 측정하였고, SPSS 18.0과 AMOS 18.0을 사용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 구조방정식 모형(Structural Equation Modeling; SEM) 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족은 부정적 평가에 대한두려움을 매개로 지각된 진로장벽에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 불확실한 상황에서 불안해하며 견디기 어려워할수록 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움이 높고 진로장벽을 높게 지각하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족은 지각된 진로장벽에 직접적으로도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족은 사회비교 경향성에 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회비교 경향성은 부정적평가에 대한 두려움에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족은 사회비교 경향성과 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움을 매개로 지각된 진로장벽에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족 → 사회비교 경향성 → 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움 → 지각된 진로장벽 경로가 유의함을 확인할 수 있었다. 반면, 사회비교 경향성은 지각된 진로장벽에 직접적 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에 대한 시사점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논하였다.

This study examined the mediating effects of social comparison orientation and fear of negative evaluation on the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and perceived career barriers. A total of 200 university students(men=68, women=132) responded to the survey packet including measures of intolerance of uncertainty, social comparison orientation, fear of negative evaluation and perceived career barriers scales. The data was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results of this study were as follows: First, correlation analysis revealed that intolerance of uncertainty, social comparison orientation, fear of negative evaluation and perceived career barriers have correlations. Second, The measurement model yielded evidence of good fit. Third, the analyses of the structural equation modeling supported the indirect pathways of social comparison orientation and fear of negative evaluation, which plays the mediating role of social comparison orientation and fear of negative evaluation regarding the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and perceived career barriers. High intolerance of uncertainty and high fear of negative evaluation also led to greater perceived career barriers. High intolerance of uncertainty led to high social comparison orientation. Also, High social comparison led to high fear of negative evaluation. So, High intolerance of uncertainty and high social comparison orientation then led to greater perceived career barriers. However, the analyses of the structural model did not support the direct pathways form social comparison orientation to perceived career barriers. Implication and limitation of the study were discussed along with some suggestions for future researches and psychotherapy practice.
