고교계열에 따른 과학적 역량과 관련 변인: PISA 2006을 중심으로

Relationship between PISA 2006 Scientific Literacy and Related Variables according to Tracks in High Schools

이 연구의 목적은 PISA 2006의 과학적 역량을 중심으로 직업교육 경로를 밟고 있는 학생들의 역량 수준과 다양한 배경변인들과의 관계를 다른 나라와의 비교를 통해 구명하는데 있다. 분석의 자료는 국제학업성취도평가(PISA) 2006이며, 연구의 목적에 따라 후기중등교육단계(ISCED 3 수준)에 재학 중인 학생을 일반계열/직업계열로 구분하였고, 분석에 활용될 국가 역시 호주, 스위스, 프랑스, 홍콩, 일본, 한국의 6개국으로 축소하였다. 자료 분석은 HLM 6.06 프로그램을 이용하여 위계적 선형모형 분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 분석대상에 포함된 다른 국가들에서처럼 우리나라 전문계고 학생들의 과학적 역량 수준은 일반계고 학생들과 큰 차이를 보이고 있었다. 특히 우리나라는 일반계열/직업계열의 구분에 따른 설명량이 매우 큰 사례로 분류되었다. 그런데 우리나라에 국한하여 살펴보면, 과학적 역량에 있어서 일반계고 학생들에게서는 사회경제문화적 수준과 같은 상대적으로 구조적인 변인에 의한 설명량이 큰 반면, 전문계고 학생들에게서는 이들 구조적인 변인보다는 동기나 태도 등의 변화 가능한 변인에 의한 영향이 발견된다는 차이가 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 후속 연구 등을 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the level of scientific literacy of vocational high school students on inter national point of view. Furthermore, we examined the hierarchical linear relationship among various student-level and school-level variables. The study used PISA 2006 survey results The target population was narrowed down to students who enrolled in upper secondary vocational/general school. Also six countries(Australia, Switzerland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea) were selected for in-depth analysis. The data was analyzed by hierarchical linear model(HLM). The finding of the study were as follows: Like other OECD countries, average scientific literacy of Korean vocational high school students was lower than that of general high school students. Especially, Korea was the country that educational tracks has explained much in variances of scientific literacy. However, structural variables such as ESCS has a significant effect on scientific literacy of Korean general high school students, whereas for vocational students, individual variables such as attitude and motivation were significant variables. This means that it might be possible to strengthen scientific literacy of vocational students with educational treatments. Based upon these findings, this study suggested several recommendations for future research
