청소년동반자의 직무외상 경험에 관한 질적 연구

Qualitative Study of the On-the-job Traumatic Experiences of Youth Companions

본 연구는 청소년동반자의 직무외상 경험을 이해하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구참여자는 청소년동반자로 1년 이상 활동하고 직무수행과정에서 경험한 외상에 관해 이야기하고자 연구참여에 자발적으로 동의한 9명으로 선정하였다, 연구자 2인이 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였고 Giorgi 현상학적 연구방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 90개의 의미단위, 21개의 하위구성요소, 6개의 구성요소로 분석되었다. 최종 도출된 6가지 구성요소는 ‘위험하고 불안정한 서비스 현장에서 느끼는 두려움과 불안’, ‘무심한 조직과 불합리한 처우 속 외로운 분투’, ‘경계 없는 항시적인 원조요청과 민원에 지쳐감’, ‘전문성 발휘에서의 제약과 한계’, ‘탈진과 무력감, 이탈’, ‘지지체계, 소명의식, 가능성에 대한 기대로 이어나감’이었다. 본 연구는 청소년동반자의 직무외상 경험이 찾아가는 서비스현장에서 경험하는 직간접 외상 뿐 아니라 속한 조직 및 직무특성, 클라이언트의 특성, 전문성 발휘에서의 제약과 관련해 유발되는 경험으로서의 구조, 결과를 총체적으로 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 훈련배경, 근무연한, 성별, 지역, 전일제/시간제 상황에 따라 직무외상경험이 다를 수 있으므로 후속연구에서 세밀하게 조명해나갈 필요가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to explore experiences of the job trauma among the youth companions using phenomenological research methods. The participants are nine individuals who have worked as youth companions. Unstructured in-depth interviews were conducted with the participants, and data were analyzed using the Giorgi phenomenological research methods. The results showed that the on-the-job traumatic experiences of youth companions were classified into 90 semantic units, 21 sub-components, and 6 components . The final components are ‘a sense of anxiety in the dangerous and unstable field of practice’, ‘a lonely struggle with indifferent organization and unreasonable treatment’, ‘being exhausted from constant request for assistance and piling civil petitions’, ‘limitation in providing professional help’, ‘feelings of burnout, helplessness and breakaway’, and ‘continue to work with support system, a sense of calling, and hopes of change’. Empirical suggestions based on the findings are also discussed.
