사회적 지지와 성인 정신적 장애자녀 기여 요인이 고령부모의 돌봄 경험에 미치는 영향

The Effects of Social Support and Contributions of Mentally Disabled Adult Children on Caregiving Experiences of Older Parents

이 연구의 목적은 성인 정신적 장애자녀를 돌보는 고령부모의 돌봄 경험을 돌봄 부담감과 돌봄 만족감 양 차원에서 살펴보고 사회적 지지와 장애 자녀의 기여 요인이 이에 미치는 영향을 규명하는데 있다. 이를 위해 대전과 세종 지역에서 19세 이상의 발달장애 자녀, 만성 정신질환으로 인한 정신장애 자녀를 돌보는 55세 이상의 고령부모 135명을 대상으로 자료를 수집해 SPSS 24.0을 이용한 기술통계 분석, 요인분석, 상관관계분석, 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 고령부모의 돌봄 부담감은 중간 값 2.5를 약간 상회하는 2.62(sd=.68), 돌봄 만족감은 중간 값 3에 약간 못 미치는 2.84(sd=1.03)로 보통 이상의 부담감과 보통 이하의 만족감을 경험하는 수준으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 지지와 정신적 장애자녀 기여 요인 중 가족지지만 돌봄 부담감에 유의한 영향을 미쳤는데 가족지지가 높을수록 돌봄 부담감이 낮았다. 셋째, 돌봄 만족감에는 장애자녀의 정서적 기여가 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었는데 장애자녀의 정서적 기여 정도가 높을수록 돌봄 만족감이 높았다. 넷째, 통제변수 중 고령부모의 우울 수준, 신체건강, 자녀의 장애 유형, 장애자녀의 인지기능이 돌봄 부담감의 유의한 영향 요인으로 밝혀졌고, 고령부모의 신체건강과 우울 수준은 돌봄 만족감에도 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 정신적 장애가 있는 성인자녀를 돌보는 부모의 돌봄 부담감 경감과 돌봄 만족감 증진을 위한 실천적 함의를 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of caregiver burden and caregiver satisfaction of older parents caring for mentally disabled adult child and to analyse the effects of social support and disabled children’s contributions. Data were collected from 135 parent caregivers. SPSS 24.0 software was used for descriptive analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The mean burden score of older parents was 2.62 which is slightly above the median score(2.5), and their satisfaction score was 2.84 which is below the median score of 3.0. Family support was a statistically significant factor reducing the degree of caregiver burden. Disabled children’s emotional contribution to parent caregiver was a statistically significant factor increasing the degree of caregiver satisfaction. Among the control variables, parent’s depression level, parent’s physical health status, adult child’s disability type, and adult child’s cognitive function were significant factors affecting the degree of caregiver burden. Parent’s depression level and physical health were also significantly associated with caregiver satisfaction. Based on the results, implications for social work practice to reduce caregiver burden and increase caregiver satisfaction were discussed.
