A Preliminary Study for the Development of Vocational Education Model in the Vocational College Responding to Demand of the Local Community -Role of the Community Vocational Colleges in Jung-Gu District of Seoul Metropolitan City-

Vocational college, whose educational mission is to educate to get professional careers in the community, needs to run vocational education programs for adults who want to change career or to be in reemploypment in addition to its primary goal. It seems necessary to develope new education model responsive for demands from local community and industries. To operate efficient vocational training system, intimate co-operations among various social partners should be set up. Namely, it looks emergency to respond with the development of new technology and information technology through the local community base educational-industrial co-operations. With the analysis of characteristics of industry and local geographical community, and educational demand from the society, the vocational colleges are should be positive in intiation of development of community demanded vacational education model under base of the educational needs. This study as a preliminary work aims to assess specificities of the communities and the vocational schools as a primary step for development of new vocational education program which cope with the social demand for information based new technologies in the recent time. For the purpose, geographical characteristics of Jung-Gu district community of Seoul Metropolitan City and environments of the vocational schools those are based on the community were investigated. The researcher has exploited the role of Soong Eui Women`s College as a center of community based vocational colleges in assessment of environments of vocational education needs in the community and has proposed the role and the linkage between the community and Soong Eui Women`s College. To answer the questions, first, what are the industrial and vocation educational specificities in the local community and Soong Eui Women`s College in Jung-Gu district community of Seoul Metropolitan City, second, what will be the proposed guidelines for linkage between the community and the vocational college, were investigated. This study has analysed various data and annual reports from Jung-Gun district community of Seoul Metropolitan City to decipher the characteristics of the industries in the community. The same methods are applied to assess the educational specificies of vocational colleges in the district with literature searchings from the colleges. The results of this study will offer a basis for the role of community vocational college as a continuous education center for career people in the Jung-Gu district community of Seoul Metropolitan City.
