Perceptions of Deans Regarding Restructuring Private Junior Colleges

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of private junior college deans regarding restructuring their colleges. A survey instrument, ?Questionnaire For Restructuring Junior Colleges?was developed by brainstorming among co-researchers of this study and academic experts who engaged in junior colleges. This Questionnaire was composed of four sections: the clearness of junior colleges` purposes and functions, restructuring of junior colleges, the restructuring plans of junior colleges, and fund acquirements of private junior colleges. The perceptions of private junior college deans were as follows: (1) the functions of Junior colleges should be differentiated from 4-year colleges and universities, and there should be close linkage among vocational high schools, 4-year universities, and social education institutes; (2) the existence of junior colleges will remain important in the next century in terms of the professionalism, but the status of junior colleges is not currently very stable; (3) The important factors, such as specification, efficiency, flexibility, and diversity of junior colleges are necessary to accomplish structural restructuring of junior colleges for the educational and financial aspects.
