Banks의 다문화교육 접근법 수준에 따른 프로그램이 초등학생의 다문화 인식과 효능감에 미치는 영향

Effectiveness of Student’s Multicultural Awareness and Multicultural Efficacy based on the Level of Banks’ Multicultural Approach

한국은 다문화사회로 변모되어 가고 있으나, 학교에서의 일반학생을 대상으로 하는 다문화교육은 여전히 문화이해교육 수준에 머물러 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 5학년 초등학생들을 대상으로 Banks의 다문화교육 접근법 수준에 따른 교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 다문화 인식과 다문화 효능감에 주는 효과성을 고찰하였다. 연구문제는 첫째, Banks의 이론에 근거하여 다문화교육 수준에 따른 다문화교육 프로그램을 어떻게 구안할 것인가? 둘째, 기여적･부가적 접근법과 변환적･사회적 행동 접근법을 적용한 실험집단과 비교집단간의 다문화 인식에는 차이가 있는가? 셋째, 기여적･부가적 접근법과 변환적･사회적 행동 접근법을 적용한 실험집단과 비교집단간의 다문화 효능감에는 차이가 있는가?이다. 연구 문제를 해결하기 위해 3개 반을 대상으로 실험집단과 비교집단으로 구성하여 A집단은 기여･부가적 접근법을 활용하여 수업하고, B집단은 변환･사회적 행동 접근법을 활용하여 수업하였으며, 기존의 학급 교육과정을 실시하는 비교집단을 구성하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, Banks의 다문화 교육과정 접근법을 활용한 실험집단이 비교집단에 비해 학생들의 다문화 인식과 다문화 효능감에 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 둘째, Banks의 기여･부가적 프로그램과 변환･사회적 행동 프로그램을 적용한 실험집단의 다문화 인식은 모두 향상되었다. 셋째, Banks의 기여･부가적 접근을 활용한 집단은 다문화 효능감에 변화가 없었으나, 변환･사회적 행동 접근법을 활용한 집단은 다문화 효능감에 긍정적 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 결과는 동화주의 관점에서의 접근 방식보다는 다문화주의 관점에서의 접근 방식이 학생들의 다문화 효능감 향상에 효과적임을 의미한다.

As the number of multicultural and migrant families in South Korea is increasing, multicultural education has gained importance. This study aimed to examine the efficiency of a multicultural education program based on the levels of Banks’ approaches, and how this affects multicultural awareness and efficacy. The research used three classes: Group A focused on contributions and additional approaches; group B mainly focused on transformation and social action approaches; and group C continued with the current curriculum. The results were as follows: First, the experimental program was found to be effective in increasing multicultural awareness and efficacy. Second, the program was found to be equally effective in increasing multicultural awareness in both groups A and B. Third, the program was found to affect group B more than group A. These results show that the program was indeed effective in increasing multicultural efficacy and awareness. In addition, to increase both multicultural awareness and multicultural efficacy, not only should contributions and additional approaches be used but also a major increase in the usage of the transformation and social action approach should take place.
