The Process of Selecting Occupations by Vocational High School Graduates

The objective of the study was to investigate the occupational decision making process of vocational high school graduates, and to recommend the strategies for career education in vocational high school. This research was done by reviewing the literature and by surveying vocational high school graduates. These vocational high school graduates were selected by using a three step stratified sampling method that categorized them according to regions (middle region/south region, city/rural) and school type(agricultural high school, industrial high school, and commercial high school). The data was analyzed through frequency, percent, ?? test, F test at 0.05 significance level. The results of study were as follows; When they were in the second or third grade of high school, they began to think about their job, and the preferred job of graduates at attending the school was differed with their major and graduate time. After they had graduated, their first job was mainly farming, fishery and mining, manufacturing, financial business and insurance according to their major. And, their present job was coined with their major and first job except for some degree deviation. And job change pattern have been differed by school type, and graduate time. Job success factor was mainly responded to efforts between agricultural high school graduates and industrial high school graduates, but competence and skill by business high school graduates. And, they thought some factors as a job prospect, duty condition, job stability to job selection criteria. Based in this results, some recommendation for career education in vocational high school should be described.
