The objectives of this study were to identify the characteristics of the unemployed and to investigate current status and to suggest directions of training and re-employment services for the unemployed. First, the concept, types, general and career developmental characteristics, and the current status of the unemployed were described. Second, governmental policies for the unemployed were described. Third, training and job search assistance services for the unemployed in USA, UK, Netherlands, Denmark and Canada were introduced : Their training and services were provided systematically and variously, satisfying clients` needs and assisting their difficulties. Finally, directions to solve the problems of training and re-employment services for the unemployed were suggested.
