A Study on the Relation Between Mathematics and Major Subjects of the Technical High School and the Level of the Mathematical Basic Ability of Students

This studies to analyze the relation between math and major subjects of the technical high school and to test the level of the mathematical basic ability of students. The examination of the relation between math and major subjects of Yeunmudae technical high school showed the consensus of the learning contents of middle school. There were some differences in some subjects but mostly it was related to algebraical calculation of the substitution of numerical value and the change of algebraic expression. Testing of mathematical basic ability of 1st and 2nd school year students of technical high schools in Nonsan city showed that the average of all items lacked the standard records(60%). Because of the lack of mathematical basic ability and the cumulation of the serious learning loss, most students had poor records in math and they took little interest in math. Also this had an influence on the learning of the major subjects and they lost interest in the major subjects, either. Mathematics teachers and major subject teachers should devise the methods of guidance which can improve the mathematical basic knowledge and the algebraical calculation abilities which are necessary for students to learn and understand the major subjects.
