Needs Assessment for Curriculum Reform of the Vocational High School

The purpose of this study was to assess vocational teachers` needs toward curriculum of vocational high school and to collect the basic data for curriculum reform. The item contents of questionnaire were the characteristics and objectives of the vocational high school, the composition of vocational department and course, and the guidelines for curriculum organization and operation, etc. Survey was performed by mailing method, and the response rate was 73.2%. Based on the results of this study, the directions for curriculum reform of the vocational high school were proposed as the followings. 1) Curriculum of the vocational high school have to be focused on the basic competency. 2) The subjects of theory and practice have to be integrated. 3) The educational contents have to be selected through job analysis, and Industrialist should participate in curriculum and text development. 4) Academic courses need to be composed to suit with the vocational high school. 5) The guidelines for curriculum organization and operation should be composed in directions to enlarge autonomy of the local board of education and school, and to consider the characteristics of vocational high school. 6) Qualification has to be given after students master the vocational courses.
