In the past, a primary objective of vocational high schools was to prepare students for a job. Therefore, vocational high school education was considered as terminal education. However, most people want to get higher education due to the decrease of children and the increase of GNP. Because vocational high schools are disadvantageous to enter colleges or universities compared to general high schools, vocational high schools lost their popularity and applying rate for them has been decreased. There are arguments in the direction for vocational high schools. Some people insist that vocational high schools adhere to the original goal of vocational high schools - preparation for a job. According to them, if vocational high schools do not stick to the original goal, there is no reason for existence of vocational high schools. On the contrary, others assert that goal of vocational high schools should be changed from preparation for job to preparation for higher education. They advocate a greater emphasis on basic academic skills and general vocational education in vocational high schools. In this article, two points of view were reviewed and discussed.
