The Effect of Concept Map Teaching Strategy on Pre-service Science Teachers’ Achievement at Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Course in Nepal

이 연구의 목적은 개념도를 사용하여 화학을 가르치는 것의 효과를 알아보는 것이다. 이 연구는 카트만두의 트리부번 대학 3학년 학생을 대상으로 수행되었다. 40명의 학생들을 반으로 나누어 실험 집단에서는 개념도를 활용하여 수업하였고 통제 집단에서는 전통적인 수업을 하였다. 수업은 50분씩 5차시에 걸쳐 진행했다. 이성질체, 알케인, 알코올, 벤젠과 같은 유기화학 주제에 대하여 개념도를 개발했고, 선다형 문항도 개발했다. 25문항의 선다형 문항은 사전 검사와 사후 검사에 모두 사용하였다. 분석 통계치로 평균, 표준편차, 변량, t-test를 구하였다. 처치 전에는 실험 집단과 통제 집단의 성취도가 유사하게 나타났다. 그러나 사후 검사에서 개념도를 사용한 집단과 전통적인 수업 집단의 점수 사이에 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 즉 개념도를 사용하여 수업한 집단의 점수가 통제 집단보다 높게 나타났다. 이것은 개념도가 유기화학 이해도를 높이는 데 도움을 주어 성취도의 향상을 가져옴을 보여준다.

The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of teaching chemistry with the concept map. The study was conducted at the B.Ed. (Undergraduate Science Education) level third year students of the two campuses of Tribhuvan university, Kathmandu. The sample population of this study was 40 students with one experimental group taught by concept map and the other control group taught by the conventional method, each group consisting of 20 students. These groups taught for five days having each period of 50 minutes. The concept map and multiple-choice test items were developed from the selected topics such as Isomerism, Alkane, Alcohol and Benzene of organic chemistry of B.Ed. third-year curriculum. The questionnaire with 25 multiple-choice items was used for the pretest and the posttest. Statistical devices such as mean, S. D., Variance and T-test were applied for the data analysis. The finding shows that the performance of both the experimental and control group in the pretest were similar before the treatment. However, there was a significant difference in the posttest between the scores of students taught with the concept maps and the scores of students taught with the conventional method. That is, students taught with concept map showed better performance than the students taught with the conventional method. It shows that the concept map facilitates comprehensive understanding which helps students score higher in undergraduate organic chemistry.
