Effects of Conformity-Oriented Communication on Loneliness: Moderated Moderation of Negative Emotion and Flow

본 연구의 목적은 순응지향 의사소통이 외로움에 미치는 영향이 부정정서와 몰입의 값에 따라 어떻게 달라지는 지를 분석하는 것이다. 이러한 분석은 크게 두 가지로 나누어진다. 먼저, 순응지향 의사소통이 외로움에 미치는 영향이 제1 조절변수인 부정정서의 값에 따라 달라지는지를 분석하는 단순조절효과(2원 상호효과)에 관한 것이다. 두 번째는 제2 조절변수인 몰입의 크기에 따라서 2원 상호효과 자체가 변화하는지에 관한 조절된 조절효과(3원 상호효과)를 분석하는 것이다. 본 연구의 실험에 참여한 전국의 556명의 대학생들의 자료를 이용하여 PROCESS macro(Hayes, 2015)에 의하여 2원 상호효과와 조절된 조절효과를 검정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모-자녀 간의 순응지향 의사소통이 증가하면 자녀의 정서적 외로움이 증가하는데, 부정 정서가 증가하면 이러한 영향이 증가되는 2원 상호효과가 발생하였다. 둘째, 몰입활동이 증가하면 2원 상호효과가 감소되는 조절된 조절효과가 확인되었다. 그리고 몰입의 크기가 비교적 낮은 수준에서는 부정정서의 2원 상호효과가 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났지만 몰입의 수준이 비교적 큰 영역에서는 부정정서의 2원 상호효과가 유의하지 않게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 부정정서의 부정적인 영향(순응지향 의사소통이 외로움에 미치는 영향을 부정정서가 강화시키는 작용)을 완화시키기 위해서는 높은 수준의 몰입이 필요하다는 중요한 함의를 제공하는 것이다.

This study examined how conformity-oriented communication influenced loneliness according to emotion and flow values. The analyses examined whether the effect of conformity-oriented communication on loneliness varied according to negative emotion value (moderating effect), then whether the two-way interaction effect varied according to the flow value (moderated moderation effect). Participants were 556 university students, and data were analyzed using PROCESS macro (Hayes, 2015). First, when conformity-oriented communication increased between parents and children, children s emotional loneliness increased; a two-way interaction effect, which increased when negative emotion increased. Second, a two-way interaction, which decreased when flow activities increased, decreased, and this moderated moderation was confirmed. The two-way interaction effect of negative emotion was statistically significant with a relatively low level of flow, but the two-way interaction effect of negative emotion was not significant at a relatively high level of flow. The results suggest that high-level flow is required in order to mitigate the negative effects of negative emotion.
