예비대학 프로그램이 신입생들의 의사소통능력과 문제해결능력에 미치는 영향

Effects of a Pre-College Program on University Students’ Communicative Competence and Problem-Solving Skills

본 연구는 예비대학 프로그램이 대학 예비 신입생들의 의사소통능력과 문제해결능력에 미치는 영향과 만족도 및 인식에 대해 연구하였다. 연구의 참여자는 국내 한 4년제 대학 수시합격자인 예비 대학생들로 구성되었다. 예비 신입생들은 인문학 특강, 학교 생활 적응 특강 및 멘토링, 의사소통영어, 문제해결형 컴퓨팅적 사고 및 SW 코딩 수업에 참여하였고, 프로그램의 대부분은 소그룹 활동을 통해 진행되었다. 프로그램에 참여하기 전과 후에 연구 참여자 학생들의 의사소통능력과 문제해결능력을 측정하는 검사를 실시하였으며, 추가적으로 프로그램에 대한 만족도 설문조사를 실시하고 학생들의 응답 내용을 양적 연구방법으로 분석하였다. 또한 예비대학 프로그램 참여에 대한 학생들의 보다 심층적인 인식에 대해 알아보고자, 서술형으로 기술한 결과보고서를 제출하도록 하여 그 내용을 질적으로 분석하였다. 의사소통능력과 문제해결능력을 측정하기 위한 사전 및 사후 검사 응답을 대응표본 t-검정으로 분석한 결과 학생들의 의사소통능력 검사의 평균은 프로그램 참여 후에 유의미하게 증가하였고, 문제해결능력 검사에서는 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 하위 영역별 결과에서는 의사소통능력 검사의 자기제시능력과 목표설정능력에서, 문제해결능력 검사의 대안개발능력과 계획실행능력에서 유의미한 향상이 나타났다. 또한 예비대학 프로그램 참여 후 학생들의 프로그램에 대한 전반적 만족도와 프로그램 별 만족도를 묻는 설문에서는 모든 문항에서 높은 만족도가 확인되었다. 결과보고서의 질적 분석 결과, 의사소통능력 영역에서 상대방에 대한 배려심이 생겨났고, 자신감이 향상되었으며, 의사소통 방식에 관심과 흥미가 생겨났다는 의견들이 있었다. 문제해결능력 영역에서는 문제를 바라보는 객관적 시각이 생성되고, 그로 인해 논리적 사고력과 창의적 사고력 향상에 도움이 되었으며, 다른 학생들과의 공동 작업에 흥미를 느꼈다는 의견들이 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 예비대학 프로그램이 대학 신입생들의 역량에 미치는 효과에 대한 교육적 시사점을 제공한다.

This study examined the effects of a pre-college program on university students’ communicative competence and problem-solving skills and their perceptions toward the program. Fifty students participated in the study conducted for five days in total. The pre-college program consisted of communicative English classes and computational thinking and software coding classes based on problem-solving activities, special lectures on humanities and on university life adaptation, and a mentoring program. During the program, students were engaged in small group activities. A pre-test and a post-test were administered on the students’ communicative competence and problem-solving skills. Paired samples t-test results revealed a significant increase in the students’ overall communicative competence. Two of the five subcategories in communicative competence and problem-solving skills, respectively, showed significant increases. Quantitative analyses of the survey found that the students were highly satisfied with the program. In their final reports the students responded that the program provided them with opportunities to improve their communicative competence, that they felt interested and confident in the process of communicating with others, and that their logical and creative thinking skills improved. The results of the study have pedagogical implications.
