코로나바이러스 팬데믹을 통해 배우는 기독교 세계관과 신앙

Christian Weltanschauung and Faith Learned Through the COVID-19 Pandemic

이 연구는 코로나바이러스 사태를 의학과 신앙이라는 통섭적관점에서 분석하며 그것이 주는 신앙적 의미를 탐색한 연구이다. 이를 위해 먼저 의학적 관점에서 코로나바이러스를 특징과 증상과 대책으로 구분하여 철저하게 분석하였다. 특징으로는 분포, 원인, 생활사, 전파력, 전파과정 등을 다루었다. 증상으로는 코로나바이러스19 의 증상분포19 기저질환과의 관계와 사이토카인 폭풍을 살펴보았다. 끝으로 대책으로는 면역반응, 백신, 지지생활습관 등을 다루었다. 이렇게 의학적 관점에서 코로나바이러스를 분석한 다음에 그 각각의 내용을 성서에 근거한 기독교적 세계관으로 보았을 때 과연 사람이 이 사태로부터 어떤 메시지를 배울 수 있는지를 제시하였다. 이러한 접근은 코로나바이러스19 를 팬데믹의 원인균으로만 보고 그것의 박멸이나 퇴치에만 집중하는 것에서 벗어나 실제적 교훈을 배우게 해 줄 것이다. 단적인 예를 들어, 그렇게 보면 심지어 코로나바이러스19 의 생활사와 전파는 복음 선교의 효율적 모델이 될 수도 있음이 드러난다. 코로나바이러스19 사태를 기회로 삼아 의학적 사실을 신앙적 관점으로 읽어낸 이러한 통섭(consilience)적 시도는 위기를 기회로 바꾸는 진정한 회복탄력성(resilience)의 기초가 될 수 있을 것이다.

In this paper, I explored the possibility of spiritual application of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019)pandemic by integrating concepts of medicine and practice of faith. This integrative approach can be considered as a type of consilience. To start this integrative approach, I first analyzed the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from a medical perspective, describing characteristics of the COVID-19 in terms of distribution, cause, life cycle and transmission. Then, I discussed the relative distribution of the signs and symptoms, some of the pre-existing medical conditions and their impact on COVID-19 as well as cytokine storm. Finally, I proposed some practical responses or solutions to the pandemic in light of immune response, vaccine development, and supportive lifestyle. To complete the integration, I proposed lessons we can learn from a Bible-based Christian world view, paralleling the presentation of medical analysis of the viral characteristics. With this approach, I hoped to turn the reader’s attention away from just focusing on eradication of the virus as a causative agent to be destroyed, to learning practical lessons and messages from this crisis. I go so far as to state that we can draw insights from the viral propagation as an effective model for evangelism. I hope for this effort of consilience, integrating medicine and practice of faith, to serve as a foundation for resilience against the crisis at hand and as an opportunity for future growth through further collaboration of disciplines.
