초등학생의 친구관계 내 어려움이 휴대전화 의존도에 미치는 영향

The influence of friendship difficulties on children’s mobile phone dependency: Focusing on the mediating effect of self-esteem and aggression

휴대전화를 의존적으로 사용하는 아동의 수가 증가하는 실태에 보다 효과적으로 대응하기 위해 본 연구에서는 아동의 휴대전화의 의존적 사용으로 이어지는 경로를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 선행연구 검토에 따라 친구관계 내 어려움이 휴대전화 의존도에 미치는 영향에서 자아존중감과 공격성이 매개효과를 가지는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 2018 아동청소년 패널조사 초4 패널 중 1차 자료를 사용하였고, 전체 참여자 중 휴대전화를 사용한다고 응답한 2,399명(여자 50.3%)의 응답을 활용하여 연구모형을 분석하였다. 연구모형 분석을 위해 Mplus 8.3을 사용하였으며, 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동이 경험한 친구관계 내 어려움은 이들의 휴대전화 의존적 사용 성향에 정적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 그리고 친구관계 내 어려움은 자아존중감에는 부적으로, 공격성에는 정적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 자아존중감은 휴대전화 의존적 사용에 부적으로 영향을 미쳤으며, 공격성은 휴대전화의 의존적 사용에 정적으로 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 아동의 자아존중감이 높을수록 공격성은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 친구관계 내 어려움이 휴대전화의 의존적 사용에 영향을 미치는 경로에서 아동의 자아존중감과 공격성은 각각 그 경로를 유의미하게 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 친구관계 내 어려움은 자아존중감과 공격성을 순차적으로 거쳐 휴대전화의 의존적 사용으로 이어지는 경로가 유의미하게 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 아동의 휴대전화 의존적 사용에 대해 대응하고 개입할 수 있는 실천적 방안을 논의하였다.

Considering the increase in the number of children who use mobile phones and are dependent on them, this study aims to explore the pathway leading to mobile phone dependency. This study examines whether self-esteem and aggression have a mediating effect on the pathway between difficulties in friendship and mobile phone dependency. In so doing, this study targeted the responses of 4th-grade students extracted from the 2018 Child·Adolescent Panel Survey (N = 2,399 people, 50.3% women). The research model was explored using Mplus 8.3, and the main findings are as follows: First, children having difficulties in friendship were more likely to demonstrate cell phone dependency. In addition, children having problems among friends tended to have lower self-esteem and higher aggression. Self-esteem was found to influence their mobile phone dependency negatively, while aggression was found to have a positive association with it. Also, the higher the self-esteem, the lower the aggression. Second, it was found that self-esteem and aggression significantly mediated the pathway between difficulties in friendship and mobile phone dependency, respectively. Lastly, it was found that the self-esteem and aggression sequentially mediated the pathway from difficulties in friendship to the mobile phone dependency. Practical measures to respond and intervene in the process of reducing the tendency of children to use cell phones dependently are discussed.
