페팃의 헌정적 공화주의와 도덕 교육의 과제

Pettit s Constitutional Republicanism and the Task of Moral Education

2015 개정 교육과정 「윤리와 사상」에 공화주의가 본격적으로 도입되었다. 공화주의는 기존 교육과정의 ‘자유주의와 공동체주의’의 도식에서 ‘공동체주의’를 대신하여 도입되었다. 이러한 변화의 주된 이유는 공화주의가 공동체주의의 강한 군집성 요구 논제를 필요로 하지 않고도 ‘개인의 자유와 공동선 실현의 양립’을 가능케 한다는 이론적 효율성에 기인한다. 이는 공동체주의와 유사한 신아테네 공화주의보다는 법치를 통해 비지배 자유를 달성하려는 신로마 공화주의의 이론적 특징에 의존한다. 이에 본 연구는 신로마 공화주의의 대표적 학자인 페팃의 ‘헌정적 공화주의’를 개괄하고, 이를 중심으로 2015 개정 교육과정 「윤리와 사상」 5종 교과서에 서술된 공화주의 내용을 점검할 것이다. 결론적으로, 본 연구는 도덕 교육에서 공화주의가 자유주의와 공화주의를 대체하는 이론으로 구현되기 위해서는, 페팃이 주장하는 비지배 자유, 시민적 견제력, 시민적 교양 등의 개념을 적극 활용할 필요가 있음을 제안한다.

Republicanism was introduced into the 2015 revised curriculum Ethics and Thoughts. republicanism was introduced in place of communitarianism in the scheme of liberalism and communitarianism in the previous curriculum. The main reason for this change is due to the theoretical efficiency that Republicanism makes it possible to balance both individual liberty and the realization of common good without the need for a strong clustering issue of communitarianism. This relies on the theoretical character of neo-roman republicanism, which seeks to achieve liberty as non-domination through the rule of law rather than neo-athene republicanism, which is similar to communitarianism. In this regard, this study outlines Pettit s constitutional republicanism , a representative scholar of neo-roman republicanism, and is mainly described in the five textbooks of 2015 revised curriculum Ethics and Thoughts. In conclusion, this study concludes that in order for republicanism to replace liberalism and communitarianism in moral education, it is necessary to actively use the concepts of liberty as non-domination, civic contestability, and civility insisted by Pettit.
