The Place of Intuition in Education: A Metapractical Interpretation of Thomas Aquinas’ Theological Theory

이 연구의 목적은 아퀴나스의 신학이론을 근래에 주목받고 있는 교육학의 담론 형식인 ‘메타프락시스’(metapraxis)에 비추어 해석함으로써 교과교육의 궁극적인 목적을 드러내는 데에 있다. 아퀴나스의 신학이론은 이성과 신앙이라는 인간 정신 능력의 상이한 두 차원이 직관을 통하여 서로 모순 없이 통합을 이루어가는 과정을 인간의 삶의 궁극적 목적으로 기술하고 있다. 직관에 관한 아퀴나스 이전의 관점은 플라톤주의와 기독교 사상으로 대표되며, 이것은 각각 형이상학적 관점과 종교적 관점이라고 부를 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서는 직관을 보통의 인식과 구별되는 궁극적 차원의 인식으로 상정하고 있다는 점에서 의의를 가지지만, 직관과 보통의 인식의 관련을 잘 보여주고 있지 못하다는 점에서 한계를 가진다. 아퀴나스의 신학이론은 인간의 인식을 감각과 추상과 직관으로 이어지는 일련의 지성의 작용으로 설명함으로써 이성의 자율성을 확보하는 한편, 지성을 중층구조로 상정함으로써 인식의 원인과 목적을 규명하고 있다. 직관에 관한 아퀴나스의 논의는 교과의 내재적 가치를 구체적으로 드러내는 한 가지 좋은 예시가 된다.

The purpose of this study is to disclose the covert meaning of subject education by interpreting Thomas Aquinas’ theological theory in the light of metapraxis which is the format of educational discourse. Aquinas tried to demonstrate compatibility between reason and faith by ‘visio’(intuition) and regarded divine intuition as the final end of human life. Intuition is the core concept in the history of western thought. Before Aquinas, Most of perspectives on intuition are based on metaphysics and religion, i.e., ‘Platonism’ and ‘Christianity’. In these perspectives, the relation of ordinary knowledge and intuition is ‘the horizontal relation’ of rational analysis and mystery. Following ‘metaphysical perspective’ and ‘religious perspective’, intuition cannot have any important significances in contemporary education. Instead of these perspectives Aquinas presents ‘metapractical perspective’, in which the relation of ordinary knowledge and intuition was considered to be ‘the vertical relationship’(or twofold structure). In doing so Aquinas would seem to explicate the action of the human mind. On intuition of argument of Aquinas is one of exemplary theories to reveal intrinsic value of knowledge.
